Are you a Russian or a German? Stopping the rushing game.

A few months ago I had this idea that I was considering to turning into either a comic, novel, or an animated series. Well I’m not working on it anymore and here’s why:

  1. I used bits and pieces of the idea for other ideas that I got while creating new characters for the 30 Day Challenge.
  2. I was rushing and the whole bloody thing went over my head.

That’s something I have to work on-rushing. I have an idea/concept and in my mind I can see it I can visualize what could look like and the dreams/goals that I have for it in the future when it’s completed. There’s nothing wrong with that of course but here’s the thing:

I get over excited and I rush

Even though I’m at the starting line I wanna be at point B, C, D, or even the finish line before I’m even there or even ready to be there.

I’m not being patient and I want to get to the destination as soon as possible because I don’t wanna be left even further behind than I feel I’m already am (as far as what connections I have with people in the comic industry, my talent (is it good enough?), etc.).

So I need to stop, back up, and just be patient and put in a huge amount of work ethic. Now I’m not lazy mind you, I know I have to work hard really hard to bring these undead ideas back to the land of the living.

It’s just sometimes I feel as though I’m soo far behind, I’m not good enough (I think every writer thinks this once or more in their career efforts and beyond) especially when I read someone else’s work and in my humble opinion its really damn good…

But then I get up and dust off my shoulders and get the pen, pencil, eraser, and paper (or just the labtop and my fingers) and get back to writing.

I know I’ll get there (when is the question that keeps harassing me). I just gotta go at it at a slow and steady pace.

So anytime I feel like rushing, the question that my mom always ask me and other folks: “Are you a Russian or a German?”  (I would answer German because I’ll stop rushing and also because I was born in Germany) and then get back to work.

So what about all of you out there? Are you a Russian or a German?
